Those riders fortunate enough to have sampled the delights of the new Vespa 310 range will be able to confirm that it’s a giant leap forward on any Vespa that’s gone before it. If you think that’s just us being biased, take a look at our blog which sets out the science after we put every generation of the 300cc machine onto Scootering Magazine’s dyno and compared the results.
On the dyno, our 310 produced 22.03bhp, which suggests that Piaggio has been very cautious in its performance claims. Rather than the 5% gain over the HPE quoted by Pontedera, on our dyno the improvement was closer to 9.5%.
Unfortunately, the rev limiter remains and like many owners who’ve become familiar with their machines, we think this kicks in a little too early. We understand that Piaggio may want to err on the side of caution, but the 310 seems to hit a ‘brick wall’ long before the engine’s reached its potential.

Thankfully, Polini is in agreement and has released a speedwheel that promises to lift the limiter’s tolerance of an open throttle and add another 10% to the fun factor.
Those who’ve fitted a speedwheel to their HPE will confirm the instant performance gains it offers; in simple terms it recalibrates the speedo which in turn resets the speed at which the limiter kicks in. Quite honestly, it has to be the most cost effective piece of scooter tuning equipment, on the planet.
So, if you think your 310 needs a little extra boost we’re able to offer the Polini speedring at only £21.50 plus postage and packing. When adding the speedwheel to your cart, don't forget to order a set of fixing bolts. (Our tip is to warm the existing bolts before trying to remove them, which softens up the thread lock applied in the factory.)
Please note that the Polini speedring is not suitable for GTV models.
